Images of saints and their acts can be recognized the world over. From stories of redemption, resurrection and immaculate births these are stories that have been used to inspire people the world over for centuries. Stories that have however, changed to fit the times in which they are told and used to reflect those who would be in power. Of those to receive the most changes and criticisms were women, people of color and those who would be considered queer and gender variant.
These images, these people are the saints that I choose to honor. They are activists, sex workers, women, queer, trans and almost every lovely shade of grey in between.
In “Diary” I have been documenting intimate moments during my girlfriends early transition. As a transgender person myself I I had a hard time both trusting myself to portray her in a graceful and intimate manner. Using a simple moleskin diary and handwritten entries I have tried to achieve a sort of non-voyeuristic level of intimacy with the subject. I hope to continue this series as time goes on.
